Evaluation of General Sources

For this blog, I researched the controversy of the requirement of parents having their children getting vaccinated for various diseases prior to enrolling in a public school.  I will provide two sources that contain information about the controversy that recently gained attention in the media.

Source 1:

Author: Ciolli, Anthony

Purpose: Ciolli states his views on how only people who are exempt from getting vaccinations are the people affected by the U.S.' already required law to have public schoolchildren vaccinated prior to enrolling in their schools.  Ciolli writes to inform readers on the dangers that these religious exemptions bring to vaccination discussion.  Whether or not the reader is persuaded to favor what Ciolli is up to them.  Rather, he writes to inform people of the facts that come with the debate of whether any person is required to be vaccinated.
Graphics: *Note: There are no specific graphics, rather, there individual statistics regarding healthcare issues of this topic.
Position on Subject: Ciolli does not favor one position over another and only informs readers of the issues that some people face in the debate of public school vaccinations.  He has over 50 references to support his claims made in the article.

Purpose: Urist writes to only inform readers on what public schools do to deal with parents who are against vaccinating their children.  Urist does not promote any idea favoring any decision a person can make regarding this issue.  He only presents facts given from different schools that provide ways of dealing with the vaccination issue.
Graphics: There is one picture of a child getting a shot from a doctor or a nurse which provides a visual representation of the issue at hand, whether or not schoolchildren are having their vaccinations done.  Along with the picture, the article provides many quotes from different individuals.  Specifically two quotes are highlighted to show the speaker's position in favor of having children being vaccinated.
Position on Subject: The article provides information regarding both sides of this issue, leaving the reader to decide which parts of information they find helpful.  The source comes from a magazine company that is known by many individuals and seems like a legitimate source when viewing this issue.
